Common questions
- What does it cost?
- It's completely free to play — find a case, follow the leads, and name the culprit.
- Do you track or share my location?
- No — this isn't a tracking app. Your precise location stays on your phone; the game only points you toward a general area up to about a kilometer away, never your exact spot.
- Do I need an account?
- Yes — tapping "Start investigating" takes you to a quick sign-up (email or Google) first. It keeps your cases and progress saved to you.
- Do I have to walk?
- Yes — Case Noire is built around moving through your neighborhood on foot; it's not a sit-at-home game. You set your own pace, and there's no time pressure.
- Does it work offline?
- The core game works offline and syncs when you're back online, so it's light on data. Like any GPS game it does use battery while you play.
- Do I choose where I go?
- Yes. You play at your own walking pace and pick your own route through your own streets — the game points you to a general area, never one exact spot, and if a place is unreachable there's always a "Problem?" button to flag it.
